My mother, Clara Engledove, was the first child born to Frank and Mary Jim Watson. She was born on May 17, 1900, a son Francis Clyde on June 23, 1902, and Mammie, the third child was born on July 1, 1904. She only lived a few days dying of pneumonia. Roger Bernard was born on July 1, 1908, Kelly Wilson was born on September 9, 1911, and last Kathleen Hope was born on March 3, 1918. Kathleen was born late in her parent’s reproductive years and by now the older children were grown.

This young Watson family finally moved to Lynchburg where Frank became a private investigator for the Cundiff Investigating Company. Working at this position for several years he became dissatisfied with the secrets of those he investigated and he sought a new line of work. He had acquired woodworking and blacksmithing skills. With these abilities he found permanent employment with the Thornhill Wagon Company . The time was the early 1900’s so transportation by horse and wagon was still a viable means of travel and hauling. The Thornhill Wagon Company finally succumbed to the modern era as the automobile grew in use. Now left
