She is currently serving as the Interim Department Chair in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. She teaches undergraduate literacy methods courses and graduate content area literacy and practicum courses. Kavin’s research interests include at-risk student populations, culturally responsive pedagogy, content area literacy instruction, and multisensory teaching of literacy skills. She serves as the Early Childhood Education Program Director and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the Early Childhood Education Program including Science in Early Childhood Education, Young Children: Insuring Success, Community Connections for Families, and Contemporary Issues in Early Childhood Care and Education. Dr. Powell’s research interests include science in early childhood education, working with at-risk children and families, early intervention, and emergent literacy. Tammy Burnham is an Assistant Professor at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. She teaches undergraduate core courses, literacy courses, practicum courses, and graduate literacy courses.
