What if you told your parents that they didn’t create you and they didn’t have the right to raise you, discipline you, or provide for you? Would that be reasonable or just extremely silly? Think about this - none of us remember the day we were born, so what proof do we have that our parents are who they say they are? Well, a couple of reasons: first off - for as long as we can remember our parents have given us the resources we need to survive (food, water, shelter). Secondly, we might resemble them in some way, whether it be our personalities, physical traits, habits, or hobbies. Finally, our parents express unconditional love for us. While they are not always perfect, our parents love us more than anyone else, even when we do things we shouldn’t. Did you know that some people don’t believe in God? The Bible calls these people “fools”, or in other words, “very silly”. For many of the same reasons it would be silly for us to not believe in our parents, it is foolish to not believe in God. God created us (Ps. 139:13– “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb”), made us in his image (Gen. 1:27– “So God created mankind in his own image…”), provides for us (Mt. 6:30– “…will he not much more clothe you…”), and loves us unconditionally (Rm. 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”). If you are uncertain how it’s silly to not believe in God, think about it a little more. How miraculous is the conception and birth of a child? How are we naturally inclined to recognize the difference between right and wrong? How wonderful is it that God created the Earth (perfectly placed in the universe), and gives us the fresh mountain air we need to take every breath? How richly has God blessed us here in Floyd with fresh fruit, crops, and livestock so that we don’t hunger or thirst? How much have we sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, yet are fully redeemed and forgiven in Christ? In fact, Psalm 14 says there is no good person on Earth. We are all sinners since birth, in need of Jesus our Savior. Don’t believe it? Do you know any 2 or 3-year-olds? How do they act sometimes? Even those as young as toddlers demonstrate our imperfect nature as humans. Thankfully - because of Jesus – God forgives us, redeems us, and gives us salvation to spend eternity with Him. Praise God! The proof of God’s existence surrounds us! May the Lord be our refuge, who restores us and gives us reason to rejoice and celebrate!
