Fall 2017 Line Up

Valerie June w/ special guest Nicole Atkins September 22, 2017 Hailed by the New York Times as one of America’s “most intriguing, fully formed new talents”, in her heart, June is a songwriter first and fore- most, willing and able to blur the lines between genres and eras of sounds. The result is an eclectic blend of folk and soul and country and R&B and blues that is undoubtedly the finest work of her career. After more than a decade as the de facto queen of Asbury Park, Nicole Atkins packed up and moved to Nashville. Her voice recalls a classic vinyl col- lection, untethered to decade or movement or the whim of the hipster elite; an heir to the legacy of “Roy Orbison, Lee Hazelwood, Sinatra, Aretha, Carole King, Candi Staton.”

The Capitol Steps October 18, 2017 Putting the MOCK in Democracy The Capitol Steps began in December, 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that em- ployed them. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin. So, they de- cided to dig into the head- lines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a spe- cial brand of satirical humor.
