From delicious fair treats to exhilarating rides, engaging midway games, fun livestock shows and animal displays at the barn, there is something for all ages. The Hooker Building will host talented nightly entertainment, and don’t miss the exciting Demolition Derby, a fan-favorite fair event that will be held September 7, the Saturday before the fair opens! The county fair holds a special place in our hearts for many reasons. DeHart Park in Woolwine, Rock Castle Gorge Trail and Round Meadow Creek Loop. The county is home to a wide variety of biking options, from 15 miles of epic trail at I. C. DeHart Park in Woolwine to the ridgetop runs on the Blue Ridge Parkway. 31 students received 2024 scholarships in the amount of $61,500 from the Stuart Rotary Student Loan and Scholarship Foundation

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Stuart Rotary Student Loan and Scholarship Foundation, Inc. was created in 1968 with the main purpose to receive donations of money and property in order to offer low interest loans to Patrick County graduates to pursue their education beyond high school. The scholarship component, providing scholarships to PCHS graduating seniors, was added in 1976. Since the 1968 loan program began, 144 loans totaling $170,375 have been provided to Patrick County students attending college. Students begin repayment of the loan six (6) months after college graduation. From 1976 to the present, 393 scholarships totaling $385,950 have been provided to graduating seniors.

FIRST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Foundation began a new initiative in 2019 entitled the First-Generation Scholarship Program and funded two (2) scholarships in its initial year of implementation. Applicants must be the first individual in his/her family to attend college. In addition to an extensive application and interview process, recipients had to commit to maintain an acceptable college GPA and outstanding discipline record, participate in and attend certain Rotary meetings and events, and perform an annual minimum of sixteen (16) hours of community service. Recipients of the First-Generation Scholarships will also be assigned a mentor from the Stuart Rotary

Club who will guide, advise, and assist students through their college experiences. The First Generation Scholarship program provides a $2,000 scholarship annually for a maximum of 4 years (totaling $8,000) or until a bachelor’s degree is received. Of the thirty-one (31) awarded scholarships, four (4) students have been chosen for the 2024 First-Generation Scholarships. Funding for two (2) of these $8,000 scholarships was provided by the Pauline H. and W. Blair Clark, Sr. and Family Scholarship Account and the remaining two (2) scholarships were funded by Stuart Rotary Club.

FARM, GARDEN, AND HOME EXHIBITS • All exhibits entered must be produced or owned in Patrick County or the surrounding counties by the exhibitor. • Junior age group consists of exhibitors enrolled in school in grades K-12. • Unless otherwise noted, entrants are classified as adult in-county, adult out-of-county, and junior in county or out-of-county. • All items must have been made or produced within the last year. • Only one (1) item may be entered per class (per entry number) by each exhibitor. • The largest category is being reinstated for the following seven (7) specific items: cornstalk, tobacco leaf, sunflower head, pumpkin, watermelon, tomato, and sweet potato. • Exhibitor must provide accurate and current mailing address and phone number to fair officials processing entries. • No viewing of exhibits allowed during judging. • The decision of the judges will be final. • All exhibits must remain on display for the full duration of the fair. • Canned food should be in a standard clear glass jar. • Each baked item must have recipe attached to the entry. No items prepared from mixes are permitted. • All photography entered must be produced or owned in Patrick County or the surrounding counties by the exhibitor. • Entrants must be amateur photographers who earn less than half of their income from photography • Junior age group consists of exhibitors enrolled in school in grades K-12. • Unless otherwise noted, entrants are classified as adult in-county, adult out-of-county, and junior in-county or out-of-county. • All photos must have been taken on or after January 1, 2023 • Any photo entered in any previous fair cannot be re-entered in this year’s fair. • A maximum of seven (7) entries are allowed per person with a maximum of one entry per class.
