AGENCIES AND AUTHORITIES

Each year the Town receives requests for funding from outside agencies to provide financial support from the General Fund. Requests received by January 31 st are considered for funding in the upcoming budget year. The requests must explain how Blacksburg citizens benefit from the program or service offered by the agency. The requests are placed into one of four categories: Human Services, Educational/Cultural, Environmental, and Economic Development. Agencies requesting funding are invited to make a presentation during the period Town Council is reviewing the budget. The Town also provides financial contributions to several local authorities, including the Virginia Tech-Montgomery Executive Airport Authority, and other organizations it participates in as a member. Beginning in FY 2023/2024, funding for the NRV Emergency Communications Regional Authority was moved from the Police Department’s budget to the agencies and authorities budget. The funding summary for agency and authority contributions is included in this section on the following pages.
