Short-Term Training Programs
FastForward Program
Nurse Aide
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) provide intimate, hands-on healthcare to patients in medical settings, helping with bathing, dressing and the basic activities of life. A day in the life of a CNA might also include: taking patients’ temperature, blood pressure and other vital signs. CNAs help patients or clients with healthcare needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Pharmacy Technician
The course teaches pharmacy technician students information, techniques and procedures needed to assist the pharmacist in delivery of pharmaceutical products and services. The main objective is to provide the students with a working knowledge of most aspects of pharmacy in community and institutional practice settings. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.
Phlebotomy Technician
During phlebotomy, students will learn to draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations or research. A phlebotomist may explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions. In this program, students will learn and prepare for certification as a phlebotomy technician.
Plumbing
Students in the plumbing course will learn about the plumbing profession, safety, tools of the trade, plumbing math, drawings, plastic pipes and fittings, copper tube and fittings, cast iron pipes and fittings, steel pipes and fittings, plumbing fixtures, removal of liquid and solid waste, and water distribution. Core Craft Skills is required to be taken concurrently with the Plumbing class. Core Craft skills include basic safety, introduction to construction math, hand tools, power tools, and construction drawings. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to sit for two NCCER certifications, the Core Craft Skills and Plumbing Certification exam.
