Our community is unique! The events around the country and our com munity have created a strong bond among our law enforcement agen cies, stronger than most in the Commonwealth and different. The com mon goal is serving the community. As a result of this leadership culture, our crime rates are low, and crimes are less malicious in nature. The leadership creates this culture at The Town of Blacksburg Police De partment, The Town of Christiansburg Police Department, TheMontgom ery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia Tech Police Department. The leaders in these departments have high expectations and model positive leadership. They develop the core values, emphasize mission and vision daily. They hire based upon these very qualities. To enhance community awareness and build stronger relationships, most of these agencies provide citizens academies. These academies openly share the work provided by the respective agencies, their bright spots, and challenges. Education and training are provided at the local, regional, state, and na tional levels.
