This relationship is reciprocal as well; strong healthcare providers need a vibrant community. Res idents expect access to good primary care and specialists. Did you know that the state determines what specialists and equipment healthcare providers can have in a community? Although the state-imposed challenges create a vacuum at times, we have two excellent hospitals and physi cian networks in our community. LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, located in Blacksburg, was recognized as the 2020 Business of the Year for their leadership during the pandemic and what they do to support our com munity. There are over 175 providers in our community associated with LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. The economic impact on our community is estimated at over $68 million. Carillion Medical Center of the New River Valley is a regional non-profit hospital located in the southern portion of Montgomery County. This hospital has a total employment of 2,780 from throughout the New River Valley and beyond and an economic impact of $333 million. Did you know we have a medical college in our community that trains physicians who wish to serve in rural and underserved communities? Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg is one of four campuses located in southern states that is training physicians. Citizens are demanding different healthcare, and healthcare providers are changing the traditional delivery model. We have physicians who have chosen not to take insurance but to work with families on the best pay ment method that meets their needs. We even have providers that focus on prevention and wellness as part of their practice, MDVIP Wellness, led by Dr. Greg Beato. This new approach to medicine also enables members to see a physician on the same day instead of delays due to scheduling and build a healthcare plan to support health and wellness. We have health coaches who are certified and trained using the Duke Integrative Medicine model, such as Robert Ferrari. Wellness also matters in our community. We have excellent dentists, massage therapists, sports medicine spe cialists, yoga trainers, run clubs, physical therapists, hypnotherapists, behavioral therapists, and more who stand ready to serve you.
