I want to thank EVERYONE for the opportunity to serve as the President and CEO of your Chamber. Since my first day back on December 1, it has been a fast paced and exciting time learning everything the Cham ber does for its members and the community. I have truly enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing firsthand how valuable a mem bership with the Chamber can be. I especially want to thank my Executive Board, Board of Directors, Ambassadors, and my staff. I appreciate your hard work and countless volunteer hours in promoting our business commu nity and making our community one of the best places to live and work. Our success in fulfilling the Chamber’s mission and comple tion of our strategic goals is due to the collaborative effort by all. Economic growth and a vibrant business community is the pri mary goal of the Chamber. Which is very similar to the mission at Virginia ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) where I was the Special Agent in Charge of the for the southwest portion of the state. Some have asked how the transi tion has been after spending the past twenty-seven years in law enforcement and now working for the Chamber. The answer is simple, “it’s been great!” Sure, I miss the job and the people I worked with, but the Chamber is a way to give back to the commu nity and build on relationships that I already had with stake holders in the area. As we come out of a pandemic, we will all need to continue to
ship New River Valley continues to be a success, mainly due to the hard work and dedication of the committee members. Those that have attended this program, and currently in attendance, all speak highly of this program. These are just a few of the examples of current programs the Chamber offers, but there are many more posted of the on the website at www.montgomerycc.org . We are fortunate to have such a large and diverse membership of more than 600 members that provide experience and exper tise. We invite any business that is prepared to invest in them selves, and the community by becoming involved in the Cham ber.
work together, and be creative in our problem solving. As we move forward, my focus is to build on the foundation my predecessor Sharron Scott established, which is for the Chamber to be a re source and advocate to promote business growth and strong leaders within our community. For example, the three CASE (re ferral) groups are filling up fast with members sharing informa tion and building contacts, and we have also initiated monthly meetings to help small business es (members and nonmembers) with financial assistance and connecting them with the Small Business Development Center. There has been good turnout with our meetings for the Minori ty Business Accelerator and I only expect more interest as word gets out. We also continue to see excellent turnout at our ribbon cuttings. I truly believe this is the result of members supporting one another and wanting to see them succeed. Also, the Leader RELATIONSHIPS THAT I ALREADY HAD WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN THE AREA. THE CHAMBER IS A WAY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND BUILD ON

Town of BLACKSBURG
N estled between the Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountains, Blacks burg is a product of its geography as much as its history. In 1872, from its remote location atop the Eastern Divide, our pioneering forebears successfully petitioned to host the land grant college that would proudly become Virginia Tech. Today, Blacksburg is a rising star in the regional economy: a nexus for re search and industry, and a genuine home for thousands of residents — past and present. Generations know the call of crisp fall days, mountain vistas and freshwater along the streets of our town.
Mayor Leslie Hager-Smith Town of Blacksburg
Blacksburg offers all the charms of a small town, combined with the leading-edge opportunities of a major university. Whatever your interest – sports, arts, restaurants, shopping, outdoor recreation -- we have it all. And, if you’re looking to do business in Blacksburg, we are here to help and encourage you along the way.

As the retail hub of the New River Valley, Christiansburg has much to offer our business community as well as our residents and visitors. We are blessed with a great entrepreneurial spirit in the area and the local governments appreciate our relationship with our local businesses and want to support their continued growth. Our strategic location with I-81 and U.S. Routes 11 and 460 as well as the presence of the universities in the region makes us competitive with anywhere in the country, and the re gion’s natural beauty and incredible history only further to boost a premier quality of life here that make this “The Place to Be!”
– Randy Wingfield , Town Manager
14 | MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
C hristiansburg is the fourth largest town in Virginia with a community steeped in history, and we’re surrounded by Virginia Tech, Radford Uni versity, two major hospitals, and the I-81 corridor. That gives us a unique ability to serve diverse collegiate, commercial and professional indus tries, while still maintaining the vibe of a small town. And that’s a vibe we want to keep, even as we serve the New River Valley as its retail corridor and welcome new businesses each year. Christiansburg pairs brand-name shopping and dining with locally-owned eater ies and boutiques. Recreation is simply a way of life in Christiansburg, and every year, the Harkrader Sports Complex hosts youth baseball championships, while the Christiansburg Aquatic Center is the home pool of the Virginia Tech Hokies and welcomes numerous swimming and diving competitions. Whatever brings you to town, we hope you enjoy your stay! Town of CHRISTIANSBURG
Mayor D. Michael Barber Town of Christiansburg
Welcome to Christiansburg – the place to play.
Recreation is a large part of Christiansburg’s identity, and you can see why when you visit our local parks and sports complexes and explore the ever-expanding Huckleberry Trail with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. No matter the season, there are always exciting programs available through our aquatic and recreation centers that are diverse enough to satisfy all interests and needs. And once we’re able to safely gather together again, we hope you’ll join us for our many popular festivals each year.
To state it simply, Christiansburg is the place to be!

L eadership New River Valley enhanc es participants’ leadership skills and encourages the application of what is learned each month in their work. This program goes one step further and provides the class with the opportunity to give back to the community through a Leadership Legacy project. In 2021, Sleep in Heavenly Peace - New River Valley has now built 450 beds. TheLegacyProjectworkswitha local non-prof it to build capacity for their respective vision and mission. The class members learn about themselves, apply principles of change man agement, and expedite applying learned prin ciples in a controlled environment provided by the local non-profit. The Chamber uses the Phillips Model of ROI to calculate the benefit to the non-profit and the community.
Leadership NRV has worked to support non-profits such as Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (aka MCEAP), Habitat for Humanity, Vittles for Vets, and many more. This work creates opportunities for building relationships and building a better community for all residents.
“Even though I’ve worked and lived in the New River Valley all of my life, Leadership opened my eyes to many businesses and opportunities I had no idea existed within our community. It also challenged me to think beyond my comfort level, to experience and learn new thing and new ways of thinking. The networkng and friendships I made during Leadership will carry on for years to come.” Lieutenant Mark Hollandsworth , VSIC Support Services Division Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
“Leadership has been my favorite program since joining the MCCC. The knowledge that I gained allowed me to feel more like a leader in our area. It gives the rare opportunity to learn what makes our community function. Lead ership really taught me what a gem our county is. Professionally, I was able to make connections and meet so many new faces. I even booked a few appoint ments from it, so my investment really paid off!”
“Leadership NRV was truly a game changer in my career! The leadership, communication, and relationship building skills I developed through this program have been irreplaceable. “
