We are pleased to see positive growth trends with our businesses and residential communi- ties as revenues and permit activity continues to increase. Our most recent nancial audit indicated that we are very sound nancially and we were upgraded by our bond rating agencies to AA+ by Moody’s and A1 by S&P. According to Zippa.com, of the 62 cities ranked in the state of SC Mauldin ranked the fourth most successful city. Mauldin’s recreation programs and facilities are rst rate and state of the art. We o er some of the best recreation opportunities of any city in the state with 78 acres of parks in addition to the Mauldin Sports Center that includes a gym- nasium, a climbing wall and a full line of tness equipment and classes. Our senior citizens’ program continues to grow each and every year, and our seniors stay extremely active. Mauldin’s Cultural Center, located adjacent to the Sports Center and a stone’s throw from city hall, continues to serves as a resource for the community by housing the Greater

Mauldin Chamber of Commerce and various civic groups. Our newest addition to this venue is our outdoor amphitheater, hosting several performances including “Beaching Fridays” this year for eight weekends. Event attendance and building usage contin- ues to set new records for this venue. “Expect Greater ings” as we continue to invest in this facility both internally and externally. Mauldin! “Our Time has Come” is a phrase that can readily be seen in action through the new development happening all throughout the city of Mauldin. From expanding programming at its cultural center, giving residents and business a sense of community, increased quality of life and a de ning place, to the burgeoning o ce mecca along I-385 corridor, Mauldin is a town on the move. Peripherally, the city continues to expand its commercial, industrial and residential o erings. Brook eld O ce Park and the surrounding area has seen its best year to date with the announcement of Morley; launch- ing a new diversi ed customer service company bringing more than 270 new jobs, Anyone Home Inc. opening a call center and expecting to hire 570 workers over the next ve years and TTI, Turbine Technologies Inc., a power systems supplier that will ultimately hire 50-75 people with a focus on hiring veterans. As well, “several projects coming through the pipeline of development” will add another $200 million plus in develop- ment and well over 1,000 jobs should they come to fruition”; according to City Administrator Trey Eubanks. Additionally CUICAR and what looks like the real possibility of land- ing an industrial unit at Mauldin’s last certi ed site, thanks to the work of retired economic director John Gardner, peripheral generators of busi- ness are coming into their own and impacting the local community in ways beyond business development. More business means more housing and service industry needs. While the peripheral picture for the city is bright, Mauldin has plenty of in ll opportunities within its developing downtown that will drive the landscape for the next several years. ere are plenty of developers, residential and commercial, who are beginning to look at the ripeness of

the market and drawing their own conclusions. One need look no further than the development of Tropical Grille on North Main to see what kind of impact a $1 million dollar investment will make in the city. A little fur- ther up North Main and the nal steps of a new 18,000-square-foot feder- al project will greatly impact the palate of 276. To add to these exciting projects are the impressive demographics that make Mauldin a standout opportunity. Best median household income in the county, highest dis- posable income available, highest on time graduation rate in the county boasted at Mauldin High School and a recent boost in its nancial rating to 2-AA gives one a sense that this city’s time has come. North and south, there is a redevelopment palate waiting for visionary investors willing to take on the challenge of an ever changing dynamic. Football – ages 6-12 Sign-ups are usually in July. We participate in the Golden Strip Football League. We typical- ly have around 250 participants. Postseason all-star play is done through SCAP (South Carolina Athletic Providers). Basketball – ages 6-12 Sign-ups are usually in November. This is an in-house league with around 325 players participating each year. e basketball program is o ered for both girls and boys. Postseason all-star play is done through SCAP. Cheerleading – ages 6-14 Sign-ups typically run the month of May. is sport is o ered to boys and girls. ere are about 75 cheerleaders that participate each year. Mauldin has also hosted games and tourna- ments for the growing international sports of Rugby and Cricket. e recreation department assists in the organization of the Veterans Day and Memorial Day services at the Mauldin Veterans Memorial each year. e most popular event each year in the City of Mauldin is the annual Easter Egg Drop. is event takes place at Sunset Park and brings thousands of participants each year to Mauldin. e City of Mauldin welcomes Keira Kitchings as the new Mauldin Cultural Center director. She brings a wealth of experience and ability with her in the role of director. Having served the Arts Council of York County, the American Culinary Federation in planning and several non-pro ts, Kitchings is continuously working to add new events and programming for the citizens of Mauldin through the center. “I plan for this center to be the hub of culture and the arts within the community,” said Kitchings, who

With the summer season came two new series — Every Friday evening in June, Beachin’ Fridays presents live performances by local beach bands. Saturday mornings from June through August are reserved for the Mauldin Downtown Market, which hosts more than 30 local produce vendors, local restaurant vendors, local artisans and a kids zone. For the past six years, the Cultural Center has partnered with the SC Barbecue Association, the parks, recreation, public works, police and re departments to host Sooie., Mauldin’s Annual BBQ Cook-o . Twenty- ve cookers come from all over South Carolina to show o their barbecue skills. Friday evening kicks o the event with live music and an “Anything Butt” competition, where cookers can cook anything but pulled pork. e event continues Saturday a ernoon with another live band, a kids zone and a sanctioned pulled pork competition. Visitors can purchase tasting passes for the event, allowing them to taste samples from each cooker and vote on their favorite; they can also purchase pints to take some ’cue home for later. is year, Kitchings expanded the Cultural Center’s performance series with the inaugural Broadway Under the Stars, an event that showcases the talents of local theater professionals performing Broadway favorites live in the center’s outdoor amphitheater. Spring will also yield a series of comedians, the rst being James Gregory, “America’s funniest comedian.” But don’t worry; Mauldin hasn’t forgotten about winter festivities. Part- nering with the Greater Mauldin Chamber of Commerce, Mauldin’s hol- iday e orts have tripled resulting in Mauldin’s 12 Days of Christmas. e program runs Dec. 1 through Dec. 12 and will be jam-packed with events including Santa’s workshop, pictures with Santa, a tree lighting, a parade, an outdoor movie, a spirits tasting, musical performances and more. MAULDIN MIDDLE SCHOOL: A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE When you arrive on Mauldin Middle School’s campus and walk through the hallways it quickly becomes evident why the school is considered to be one of the best middle schools in Greenville County. e Principal of Mauldin Middle School is Christopher Kilian, and he is in his second year as principal of the school. He expressed his feeling about the school in this way: “Mauldin Middle School is a very special place because of the remark- able people we have here. Our students, faculty, sta and parent community care greatly about helping our students reach their full potential. It is this strong part- nership with the community that makes our school so exceptional.
