MCPS hosts Fine Arts Night Each spring, MCPS hosts Fine Arts Night, an opportunity to showcase artists from each branch of the fine arts. This years display included artwork from artists in grades PreK-12 across the division. Choir, Band, and Theater Arts are featured on the MCPS Youth Arts and Music Month website. About the art featured in the showcase, Carrie Lyons, Lead Art Teacher said, "I love the contrast of displaying artwork created by elementary students next to artwork created by middle school students."

Christiansburg Construction Update

MCPS is currently conducting renovations at CPS, CES, and BES.

All projects at BES and CES will be completed by the start of the 2022 2023 school year. Renovations at CPS are scheduled to be completed in December 2022. MCPS has awarded the construction contract for Christiansburg High School to Branch Builds. Final design documents should be completed in the coming weeks. Approval has been given by the state to utilize ESSER III funds for renovations to the HVAC and mechanical systems.

MCPS Cosmetology Program Prepares Students for Beautiful Careers

The MCPS Cosmetology program prepares students for a wide variety of careers through high-quality classroom instruction, clinical experience, work-based learning, and co-curricular activities. Rebecca Fore at Christiansburg High School and Kelly Shepherd at Blacksburg High School teach students from all four MCPS high schools. MCPS Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses, including Cosmetology, teach general workplace readiness skills and job-specific skills to prepare students for employment after high school. Many cosmetology students are employed while enrolled in coursework. Students compete in co-curricular leadership and cosmetology-specific activities through SkillsUSA. Cosmetology students graduate ready to begin their careers with a well-rounded set of skills and a state license.

Hope Hylton is a junior at Eastern Montgomery High School. Mrs. Fore described Hope as, “hard working and dedicated to the cosmetology program. She goes above and beyond when it comes to her work!“

Silas Moore is a senior at Christiansburg High School. Silas is currently working at InStyle Salon and studying to earn his Virginia Cosmetology license from the Virginia Board of Barbers & Cosmetology. Mrs. Fore said, "to say that Silas is passionate about barbering would be an understatement. Everything Silas does is to better himself in this field. He plans on becoming a Barbering educator in the future and has assisted in teaching several of my students!"

Amber Hixon is a senior at Auburn High School. Amber currently works at Meredith's Salon in Christiansburg. Mrs. Shepherd said, “Amber is a strong leader and self-motivated. She is eager to learn and help other classmates, she is a great team player.” Amber’s supervisor at Meredith Salon added, “Amber is very passionate about this industry by the way she gets excited just talking about hair. Her motivation and drive are going to carry her far in this industry!”
