Double End Break “V” (TTT7V) Advantages The TTT7V design offers distinct advantages over other switch designs. Current transfer from terminal pad to terminal pad involves no pivoting transfer points. Phase to phase and overhead electrical clearances are reduced. Structure designs can be simplified to take advantage of the switches smaller profile. Terminal loads do not impact switch operation and position. Given the straightforward design, field installation and adjustment is simple. The TTT7V current transfer involves only two moving parts, neither are in the current path. The blade is a single piece of aluminum tube with blade contacts attached to each end. As the center insulator rotates a gear mechanism is utilized to rotate the blade into the jaw reverse loop contacts. There are no pivoting joints needed to transfer current. Due to the dual open gaps and open blade position of the TTT7V, the switch can to be mounted on IEEE minimum (vertical break) phase spacing. Overhead clearances are also significantly reduced when compared to a vertical breaks open blade position. Higher terminal loads can be applied to the TTT7V without effecting the operation of the switch. Both jaw end insulators are fixed and not required to rotate to operate the switch. The blade of the TTT7V is also supported by the center insulator. Since terminal loading in not applied to the center insulator, switch operating effort and blade alignment are not impacted. The TTT7V design is easy to understand. The movement of the blade and drive linkage is straight forward which allows field crews to visualize any adjustments that may be necessary. The spring loaded bevel gear ensures precise operation with no lost motion making adjustment easy. Structure designs can be streamlined as a result of the smaller footprint of the TTT7V. Typical structures utilize two support columns instead of four which reduces the associated steel and foundation costs. Utilization of minimum phase spacing further reduces the structural steel required. The TTT7V provides a numbers of benefits. A simple but effective current transfer, reduced clearance requirements, increased terminal loading capabilities, smaller foot print and associated structure and a product that is user friendly.
