Lenore Bethel Miller

The youngest child of John Harvey and Minnie Catherine was Lenore Bethel Miller who was born on December 24, 1914. She also grew up on Kimberling and attended the one room schoolhouse one mile west of her home. Once her basic elementary education was completed she transferred to Hollybrook School located some distance form her home. Because of the harsh winter months it became difficult for her travel by horse this distance to school. So her parents boarded her and her horse at Floyd and Dallas Ramsey ’s home on Pinch Creek . Pinch Creek is a small secluded valley on the eastern end of the Kimberling Valley. Lenore would ride horseback from there to Hollybrook, which was her school for 3 years in her early teens. Fate would intervene in her life and she met Floyd's younger brother, Claude, with whom a deep affection soon grew. The attraction was mutual and at the age of 17 Lenore married Claude in Pearisburg, Virginia. Claude was 4 years older than Lenore and a young handsome fellow. Needing a place to live and lacking financial security they moved in with his parents, the home of the Theodore Randolph Ramsey family, on Pinch Creek.

In order to support themselves Claude did odd jobs locally. He often found some work in the farming community, finally finding good employment at the Radford Arsenal in Radford. They rented a white frame house on Emory Morehead ’s farm on Route 42 at the Slide (Point Pleasant). He commuted to work daily and life was good. By 1943 they had been blessed with
