Emory & Henry football players have been recognized on the national level since the early days of the game. The Dave Thomas Twelfth Man Award was created at the conclusion of the 1982 football season by then-Head Coach Lou Wacker to acknowledge members of the Emory & Henry football family for going above-and-beyond in their contributions to the program. Since its inception, 37 individuals have been named the Dave Thomas Twelfth Man of the Year including Presidents of the College, faculty, staff, medical professionals and philanthropists. The award was named for Dave Thomas, its 11th recipient, following the 2005 season. Thomas was a long-time member of the facilities staff, whose work ethic and dedication to Emory & Henry and its student athletes was unmatched.
