Drawing Out The Word

9. God's Teachers

Scripture:

Deuteronomy 32:7

Hymn:

"Faith of Our Fathers"

Meditation: Have you ever said, or heard someone say, "Back in the old days…?" That's not of human origin, but rather it is a directive given by God to the elders of His children. God's way of teaching the young the ways of life is by encouraging parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other elders to share their experiences and knowledge with the younger generations...  Because the Elders Have Great Wisdom. (Deut. 32:7; Job 12:12) God's teachers can share what they've learned, the good and the bad, in life. They can share ways to avoid mistakes that they have made. Elders can testify of the right paths that lead to triumph in life. And, they can share how they have coped with the trials. Young people need guidance from those who know the ropes of life.  Because Old Age Displays God's Power. (Psalm 71:9,18; 92:14) God does not cast off the old as they become physically weak. He honors those who weaken in strength by giving them grace to live in victory. When the young observe this power in the lives of the old, they are seeing God at work. Old age is a testimony to the young.  Because Godly Elders Teach Godly Principles. (II Timothy 1:5; Titus 2:1-5) There is certainly an honored role for elders in the church. God has assigned them to disciple young Christians in the proper ways to manage life and home.
