Drawing Out The Word

13. Conditions for God's Work

Scripture:

John 6:28-40; 14:6

Hymn:

"Work for the Night Is Coming"

Meditation: Christ, while on earth, was asked the question, "What shall we do that we might work the works of God?" God's direct answer to this should clear any doctrinal errors that associate work with earning merit for salvation. Many today would begin listing good works and addressing social issues in response to such a question. But, let us examine the answer given by Jesus Himself as he stated the necessity of…  First Obtaining Spiritual Life by FAITH. We read in John 6:28-29, 35, 39-40 that, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." Clearly, the first pre-requisite for serving God is salvation by grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:1-10).  Then Using Your Physical Life for God. Hebrews 9:27 emphasizes that every man will die and be judged by God. Everyone has a limited physical life which is "even a vapor," notes James 4:14-15. So, there is but one opportunity to use this life for the service of the Lord.  Finally Determining to Do RIGHT. Psalm 34:11-14 ponders why one would consider a life fulfilling without pursuing righteousness. And, James 4:16 17 marks them evil who know to do good and yet do not attempt to do it. Righteousness is a pre-determined choice by every individual. Will you choose to do right?

God Does the Work of Salvation. Man Executes the Works of Salvation.

ist as Lord of all and receiving Him as your personal Savior: our forgiveness and accept your gift of eternal life through Christ.”
