Additional Information: This class provides the basic skills and safety techniques needed to paddle a kayak on flat water. The class will cover launching techniques, paddling terminology, basic paddle strokes, kayaking safety and trip planning. This is a fun and informative kayaking class followed by a short kayaking tour along the shores of Claytor Lake. All equipment is provided: single person kayak, paddle and personal floatation device. The class is taught by Mountain 2 Island Paddle Boards, Kayaks and Boat Rentals. Participants provide their own transportation to the marina. Class Reg. Begins Reg. Ends Date Time FEE Sept. April 1 Sept. 22 Tuesday, Sept. 27 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. $15 MERIT BADGE SUMMER PROGRAMS MERIT BADGE PROGRAMS The following activities are available for boys/girls ages 10-17 interested in improving their health, learning new skills and expanding their work. This is also an introduction to Scouts BSA and starting a journey of earning badge requirements while having fun! Once a scout submits a “blue card” (provided in each class) to the troop leader, the troop will purchase and award the badge. **Non-Scouts (boys and girls) are also welcome to sign up and learn new skills and topics through these programs as well as experience a part of the progra . Additional Information: It is never too early to start learning about money-matters. How to manage money is one of the more important skills to prepare for a responsible and happier adulthood. Financial terminology, planning, budgeting, and prac tical lessons along with time management skills will fill the day. Bring your own water bottle, lunch and snacks. This is a partial merit badge with a requirement of logging 13-weeks of income and expenses. There is no school on October 14 for Montgomery County Schools. Joinme for a discussion on how to tame those hormones and balance them naturally, through nutrition principles that are easy to incorporate. Decrease the bloat, reduce the hot flashes, live your best life! Minimum: 3 Maximum: 15 Registration Eligibility Date Time FEE Sept. 1 - Sept. 23 Ages 21 and over Thursday, Sept. 29 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. $5/$10 VIRGINIA SAFARI PARK Additional Info: Join us as we travel to Natural Bridge and feed the animals. Fee includes transportation and admission to the park. Lunch will be on your own following the park. Pre-register. Minimum: 5 Maximum: 7 Registration Eligibility Date Time FEE Sept. 7 – Sept. 21 Ages 21 and over Friday, Sept. 30 Leave Recreation Center at 8 a.m. $35/$65 Additional Information: During the American Sign Language Class, you will learn about deaf and hard of hearing community and learn how to communicate using ASL. Each week we will have a topic and will learn signs related to that topic. There will be handouts and pictures of the signs to take home & practice. In the class, you will learn ASL alphabet, numbers, common everyday words and phrases & much more. Participants w ll get hands-on train ng in the use of a fire extinguisher, learn information about smoke detectors, exhaust fans and other fir safety tips. **Participants must pre-register.
