Dear Friends and Neighbors: The fall and winter seasons bring the perfect picture of colorful leaves in the fall and the snowcapped ridgetops in the winter across the Blue Ridge Mountains of the New River Valley. This time of year, brings in a vast arrangement of recreational opportunities across our area as the excitement of fall returns. This is the perfect time to enjoy the recreational opportunities the Town of Christiansburg has to offer! The Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation exists to promote and implement leisure programs, facilities and services that enhance the quality of life for our community. We will enrich the lives of those who live, work, and play in Christiansburg by provid ing safe, thoughtfully designed and well-maintained spaces, innovative programs and community-focused services. We serve you, the residents of Christiansburg and our visiting neighbors, and look forward to continuing to grow and build our special community. As you read through the brochure, you will find many recreational opportunities available for your entire family during the fall and win ter seasons. There are plenty of ways to enjoy each other’s company outside – whether partaking in our downtown special events, enjoy ing our various Town parks, witnessing the sights and sounds of nature’s beauty while walking along the Huckleberry Trail or visiting the Farmers Market on Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. As the weather turns cooler, you may prefer to meet your recreational needs in an indoor setting. Look no further than the Christiansburg Recreation Center. Please take advantage of our various educational classes and health screenings. Exercise is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle so be sure to check out our cardiovascular and weight rooms, or simply take a nice stroll on the 1/8 mile indoor track. Are you over the age of 50? There are many Senior Center activities and events year-round. Please see our Senior Center Calendar and Parks and Recreation Department bro chure for a complete listing of all of our programming and activities. Looking for some exciting fall and winter events? Come dance and eat the evening away with us for the season ending Rockin’ Main Street concert on September 27th featuring some national acclaimed music talents along with a number of food trucks on site. Please join us on October 25th for the Truck or Treat and Getting Scary on the Huckleberry 5K Race and don’t forget to wear your most creative costume. Get into the holiday spirit with your family and join us for a “Small-Town Christmas Stroll” on Friday, December 12th. I am excited to be spending the fall and winter seasons here with you, in the Town of Christiansburg. I look forward to maintaining the recreational opportunities currently in place, while also looking at future ways we can better serve you and enhance your experiences. Our recreational community is quickly becoming known as “The ONLY Place to Play.”
