joyed the work. Again, the credit goes to Dr. Merritt. He challenged me, and I didn’t want to let him down. I was determined to prove to him that I could do it and be successful. I once was a student that believed C’s get degrees (trust me they do). I know that for a fact! But, because of the influence of Dr. Merritt, I am in a Doctoral Program. Cheers, Cedric Brown Write About It: By Laura Mays Three unpretentious words that changed my mindset in college now guide my 7th grade classroom. “Write about it.” may seem like a simple phrase, but it is a phrase that I carry on my sleeve and preach to my 7th grade students daily. What does it mean to “write about” some - thing? It forces you to focus, to reflect, and to consider the impact your words have, not only on others but on yourself as well. It means to write about the good and the bad, to consider all possibilities. Writing about it is more than just a quick sticky note or a memo in a planner. Writing about it is taking the time to be thoughtful with your words, face past demons, celebrate your successes, recognize your failures, and acknowl - edge how far you’ve come. Merritt’s advice is more than just pen-to- paper therapy: it’s about being able to look back and see all you have accomplished. Writing something down forces you to become aware of your intentions and emotions, while also being able to remember them better when reflecting. While I know not all of my students understand the significance of this simple phrase, writing has the power to change the world. The Apostles, the Founding Fathers, playwrights, philoso - phers, and authors (even Shakespeare) all began with the same task at hand: Write About It. The Merit of Insignificance By Sidney E.
