50-Year-Reunion
Eleanor “ Sis ” McFadden Hammond
Unlike most of the Class of ’75, who had always grown up knowing they would be Bluefield Beavers, I reluctantly became one. I had been a Blue Knight at Coburn High School until my senior year.
The McFadden family then moved from Coburn, Virginia to Bluefield, West Virginia in 1974.
Little French Beauty Academy on Cumberland Road was where my real education took place. They taught me skills and techniques that I still use and have mastered on many of my wonderful Bluefield friends. In 1989, the scholarly, brilliant, and wise Craig Hammond fell in love with this Bluefield beautician, and we got hitched the next year. Even though I did not grow up here, I have come to love All Things Bluefield as I have had the joy of making guys and gals even more beautiful in my beautician ’ s chair.
I am not reunion person.
Although when out - of - town folks come back to Bluefield, it seems my little beauty shop is their go - to place to meet. We get out the ’75 yearbook, and the lively discussion begins. I love it! I guess it was ten years ago, I saw that Wayne Pelts and asked him if he was going to go to our class reunion, “ with all those old people? ” he said.
