Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Today is Homecoming at Emory & Henry, and we would like to thank everyone who made the trip home to Emory to spend time with friends, colleagues and an afternoon of great football. About The Teams Emory & Henry comes into today’s game with a 3-1 record and a 1-1 mark in SAC contests. The Wasps look to get back on track after falling to Limestone University by a 37-24 margin last Sunday. Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked sixth in NCAA Division II by the AFCA and enters today’s contest with a 4-0 record and a 2-0 mark in the league. The Bears took down Tusculum University by a 37-23 margin on Sunday on the campus of Catawba College. Both games last week were altered by the effects of Hurricane Helene. The Rivalry Emory & Henry and Lenoir-Rhyne meet for the ninth time in program history today. It is the first meeting between the two squads since the 1957 season. The Bears hold a 7-1 lead in the series against the Wasps and have won seven in a row. E&H claimed the first contest in 1924 by a 10-6 margin. LR got the 1925 and 1926 editions before the rivalry was put on hold until 1953. The two squads met for the next five years with Lenoir-Rhyne capturing the victories in each contest. About Lenoir-Rhyne Lenoir-Rhyne is under the direction of first-year Head Coach Doug Socha who joined the staff in February after a successful six-year run as the head coach at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida. He started the program from scratch in 2018 and went 54-15 in six years, making five NAIA Playoff appearances including the 2023 NAIA National Championship. Socha has an additional connection to Emory & Henry. His son, Cade, is an offensive analyst for the University of Hawai’i which is coached by former Wasp offensive coordinator Timmy Chang. Jalen Ferguson is the Bears’ quarterback and has thrown for 1,073 yards and six touchdowns on 81-for-127 passing (63.8%) this year. Zayvion Turner-Knox leads the LR ground game with 356 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Alex Boyd has 128 yards and four scores of his own. Thirteen different players have caught passes for Lenoir-Rhyne this year as Songa Yates leads the way with 17 catches for 308 yards

Adonis McDaniel has 262 yards and a score on 14 receptions while DeAree Rogers and Dominique Marshall add 159 and 134 yards, respectively, to go along with a touchdown each. Defensively, Andre Jefferson and Jaelin Willis each have 24 tackles on the year with Willis boasting an interception and Jefferson five quarterback hurries. Nic Cheely has made 20 stops while Chris Brown has three takeaways in the form of two interceptions and a fumble recovery. About Emory & Henry Emory & Henry is led by Interim Head Coach Quintin Hunter, James Madison University class of 2013. Hunter is in the third season of his second stint with the Wasps and eighth overall, having previously coached at E&H from 2014-18. He holds a 3-1 record as head coach. Quarterback Charles Mutter, III has thrown for 742 yards and 10 touchdowns on 39-for-86 passing so far ths year. Cole Lambert has added a score on 9-for-18 through the air and 171 yards. Jordan Jackson continues to be the top choice out of the backfield with 506 yards on 89 carries (5.7 ypc) and three touchdowns. Mutter is second on the team with 123 yards rushing and a score. Cam Abshire has scored five touchdowns on 12 catches for 336 yards to lead the squad while Cam Peoples has 13 receptions for 260 yards and four scores. Nate Tinnell adds two touchdowns on five catches for 60 yards. Kaleb Lundy is at the top of the defense with 21 tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss while Addison Knicely had 19 stops, two interceptions and three passes defended. Elijah Harper and Jarrell Harrison have each made 17 tackles with Harper adding a team high 4.5 tackles for loss. Chendrick Cann adds 14 tackles, two interceptions and seven break-ups as Shawn Collins has 14 tackles, two interceptions, five break-ups and a fumble receovery. Trace Butcher is 18-for-19 on extra points and 3-for-3 on field goals. Wally Venter is averaging 39.2 yards per punt, with four fair catches.
