21 No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne University at Emory & Henry University October 5, 2024 • 1:00 p.m. • Fred Selfe Stadium Homecoming Weekend Today’s Game
Today’s Matchup Welcome to Fred Selfe Stadium on the campus of Emory & Henry University for today’s game as E&H hosts No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne University in South Atlantic Conference action. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Today is Homecoming at Emory & Henry, and we would like to thank everyone who made the trip home to Emory to spend time with friends, colleagues and an afternoon of great football. Stay in your seats for this afternoon’s halftime festivities. Following the performance of the “Spirit of Emory & Henry” Marching Band, the College will crown its Homecoming Royalty. About The Teams Emory & Henry comes into today’s game with a 3-1 record and a 1-1 mark in SAC contests. The Wasps look to get back on track after falling to Limestone University by a 37-24 margin last Sunday. Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked sixth in NCAA Division II by the AFCA and enters today’s contest with a 4-0 record and a 2-0 mark in the league. The Bears took down Tusculum University by a 37-23 margin on Sunday on the campus of Catawba College. Both games last week were altered by the effects of Hurricane Helene. The Rivalry Emory & Henry and Lenoir-Rhyne meet for the ninth time in program history today. It is the first meeting between the two squads since the 1957 season. The Bears hold a 7-1 lead in the series against the Wasps and have won seven in a row. E&H claimed the first contest in 1924 by a 10-6 margin. LR got the 1925 and 1926 editions before the rivalry was put on hold until 1953. The two squads met for the next five years with Lenoir-Rhyne capturing the victories in each contest. About Lenoir-Rhyne Lenoir-Rhyne is under the direction of first-year Head Coach Doug Socha who joined the staff in February after a successful six-year run as the head coach at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida. He started the program from scratch in 2018 and went 54-15 in six years, making five NAIA Playoff appearances including the 2023 NAIA National Championship. Socha has an additional connection to Emory & Henry. His son, Cade, is an offensive analyst for the University of Hawai’i which is coached by former Wasp offensive coordinator Timmy Chang. Jalen Ferguson is the Bears’ quarterback and has thrown for 1,073 yards and six touchdowns on 81-for-127 passing (63.8%) this year. Zayvion Turner-Knox leads the LR ground game with 356 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Alex Boyd has 128 yards and four scores of his own. Thirteen different players have caught passes for Lenoir-Rhyne this year as Songa Yates leads the way with 17 catches for 308 yards
