2022-2023 Independence Middle School Handbook

CELLPHONES Cell phones must be turned off and placed in their lockers when students enter the building. Students may use their cell phones in the cafeteria during lunch. After lunch, cell phones will be placed back in their lockers until the end of the day. IMS is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones. We suggest that our students leave them at home during the school day. If a student brings their cell phone to school, we recommend that they rent a lock at school for $1 for their locker for security. We are changing our cell phone policy because we spend too much time managing their misuse, and our students miss valuable learning time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this needed policy change at IMS. Failure to follow cell phone procedures will result in the following consequences. 1st Offense - Warning - Parent picks up cell phone 2nd Offense - 1 day of ASD - Parent picks up cell phone 3rd Offense - 2 days of ASD - Parent picks up cell phone 4th Offense - Loss of privilege to bring a phone to school for the remainder of the FAILURE TO TURN IN A COMMUNICATION DEVICE TO A TEACHER, PRINCIPAL, OR STAFF MEMBER WILL BE AN AUTOMATIC REFERRAL TO THE OFFICE.
