The 2020-2021 academic year was one full of challenges as we continued to move through the COVID-19 pandemic affecting every corner of our globe. However, it is often in these times that we learn more about ourselves and our communities. Through my many years at Bluefield University, I continue to see the goodness of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends at work. It is in these moments that I am reminded of Paul's words above. They are a call to remain steadfast in the faith, something we have encouraged one another to do during these troubling times. Our campus community responded during these times. Together we learned to rely on each other as we delivered meals to one another during times of quarantine. Together we found an extra measure of grace and mercy (and some patience) as we utilized new technologies to provide as seamless as possible the learning environment of our classrooms. Together we found an appreciation for being together and enjoying the fellowship between us. Never again will we take for granted the cadence of a normal academic year where we can cheer on student-athletes at competitions, sing praises to our God in Chapel, and gather together in this living and learning community. Much of what was accomplished this year and every year is made possible due to the generosities that you and many others have bestowed upon the institution. It has allowed us to be even more intentional about our mission to "be a Christ-centered learning community developing servant leaders to transform the world." So in closing we will continue to rejoice, pray for you and those at this institution each day, and through it all give thanks to God for the opportunity to be his hands and feet in this world.
