PAULA ALSTON District Governor
Paula Alston joined the Rotary Club of Blacksburg in 2007 and became a board member in 2010. She served as president of the club in 2013-2014. She was Assistant Governor for Area 9 from 2014-2016, and District Membership chair for four years. She headed up the GSE and the Hunger Initiative Committees during the COVID years. In 2018, Paula led the GSE team to the Southern Caribbean, visiting the countries of Trinidad & Tobago, Martinique, Guyana, and Suriname. Paula is a member of the Paul Harris Society, PolioPlus Society, and Bequest Society, and is a benefactor, RLI graduate. and 110% award winner. She and her husband, Tom. are Major Donors. In addition to Rotary, Paula is a member of the Board of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, on the Public Arts Advisory Board for the Town of Christiansburg, works as a poll chief for Montgomery County Elections, and is a member of the board for the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library Foundation. She is a Navy veteran. Paula received a BA in History from Old Dominion University in Norfolk and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from San Jose State University. She worked for the Chesapeake Public Library system for 15 years before moving to Christiansburg in 2006 to become Director of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. She retired in 2017. Paula’s husband, Tom, is a member of the Radford Noon Rotary Club and along with their daughter, Brett, owns the Jimmy John’s in Radford and downtown Roanoke. In her spare time, she enjoys walking, traveling, listening to books, reading, and spoiling her dog, Cooper.
